Turkey Red
Turkey Red is a heritage heirloom hard red winter wheat. It originated in Turkey and was introduced to Kansas in 1873, carried by Mennonite immigrants from Crimea in the Ukraine, fleeing Russian forced military service. Heritage wheat refers to the varieties of wheat that were grown before the 1940's when wheat began to be hybridized for higher yield.
